Hard Working Americans: an Americana Supergroup

HardWorkingAmericans

by Cat Johnson

Recently, Todd Snider joined forces with some heavy-hitters of the Americana-jam circuit including Dave Schools from Widespread Panic on bass, Neal Casal of Chris Robinson Brotherhood on guitar and vocals, Chad Staehly of Great American Taxi on keyboards, and Derek Trucks’ younger brother Duane Trucks, on drums.

Envisioned as a folk-roots project of sorts, the Hard Working Americans took a turn toward the heavy in the studio. The result is a groove-driven, rocking album that pays tribute to some great contemporary songwriters including Hayes Carll, David Rawlings and Gillian Welch, Will Kimbrough, Kieran Kane, Randy Newman and more.

Here’s a behind the scenes look at the creation of the band and its self-titled, debut album.
