Fresh Music from Justin Townes Earle

This week sees the release of Nothing’s Going to Change the Way You Feel About Me Now, the fifth album from Justin Townes Earle. For this one, recorded live to tape, with no overdubs, in a converted church in Ashville, N.C., the Americana/country/roots-rocker has taken a sidestep into old-school Memphis-soul territory. He describes the album as “completely different” from the last one, 2010’s Harlem River Blues, but finds the seamless connection between country and soul music saying, “Great songs are great songs. If you listen to a lot of soul music, especially the Stax Records stuff, the chord progressions are just like country music. And just like country music, soul music began in the church, so it has its roots in the same place.”
